The Discoverers

The DiscoverersRating: 3/5

Summary: Washed up history professor Lewis Birch drags his teenage children on a Lewis and Clark historical reenactment trek, hoping to track down his AWOL father and resuscitate his career.

Review: The premise for the movie is certainly interesting and the characters likeable. The middle of the movie, however, seems to lose narrative steam. Still worth watching, in part thanks to some singularly witty moments and a sparkling conclusion.

Availability: This item is available from the Lake Bluff Library as a DVD.

View-a-Likes: For adult fans of frazzled families, such as featured in the National Lampoon movies. Fans of ‘Road Movies’ such as The Bucket List may also be rewarded. Stephen Ambrose’s Undaunted Courage remains the benchmark for chronicling the journey of Lewis and Clark.
