Summary: An enormous black dog comes to visit the Hope family in their gothic house out in the isolated woods. The dog is as big as a t-rex. As the family barricades themselves in their house against the monster outside it is Small Hope who bravely confronts the animal. As it chases her through a maze of fences, under bridges, and threw slides the monster gets smaller and smaller.
Review: This extraordinary picture book by Levi Pinfold is about facing our fears and how sometimes our fear of something makes that something much bigger than it really is. The art work is done in muted tones reminiscent of Shaun Tan’s work with many details to pour over, again and again.
A delightful read for any age.
