Summary: Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) is a small town bureaucrat with big ideas. As the deputy director of Pawnee, Indiana’s parks department, Knope is bent on making the Pawnee parks the best they can be, despite the general apathy of her quirky coworkers. Season 2 focuses on Knope’s quest to turn an abandoned lot into a park despite opposition from the government, the library (!), and even a government shutdown.
Review: Who knew that local government could be so funny? Parks and Recreation combines the razor sharp comedy of 30 Rock with the documentary style of The Office. If you are new to Parks and Recreation, do yourself a favor and read a summary of the first season and then start with the second season. The first season was cut short by the writer’s strike in 2008, and the show doesn’t find its pace until season 2. If you’re pressed for time, standout episodes from the second season include “Sister City”, “The Hunting Trip”, “Ron and Tammy”, “Christmas Scandal”, “The Possum”, “The Master Plan”, and “Freddy Spaghetti.”
