Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief (Directed by Chris Colombus) [Juvenile DVD]

For those who want Greek Mythology to meet modern day, this movie is for you! Join Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon, as he teams up with his best friends from Camp Half-Blood, Grover the Satyr and Annabeth, daughter of Athena, to rescue Zeus’ lightning bolt.  From such mythical beasts like the Minotaur to sinister creatures like Medusa and to the gods themselves, The Lightning Thief promises an exciting adventure for all viewers.

Positives of the movie include good special effects, decent character development, as well as a handful of well-known actors, including Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Steve Coogan, Uma Thurman, Catherine Keener, and Kevin McKidd.

Negatives include a hardly strict following of classical Greek Mythology. Anyone looking for this would probably not enjoy the movie or the books as much. However, they are a good introduction to the main players if one is not familiar with the myths. It is also a decent way to get younger audiences interested in myths as well.

Description: Action-Packed, Entertaining, Based on Greek Mythology
